Okay so I didn’t go to Westonbirt this week specifically to see the autumn colour but Marley and I spent an enjoyable morning wandering the Silk Wood. It never fails to surprise me how a dog’s behaviour can change; get Marley and Coco out together for a walk and they spur each other on, Marley in particular tends to wander further afield than I would like. Now be out with either one of them (on their own) and their behaviour changes such that they are much more attentive and responsive to me. Marley was a very good boy on our walk and remained near me even when I stopped for a few minutes to take photographs. Didn’t take a single one of him though!
To paraphrase Henry Winkler ‘I’ve never met an idiot with a dog’. Well that’s not strictly true but sums up my feelings about some of the people who were there. Every dog owner I met was happy to chat and clearly loving being out and about. Contrast that with the elderly couple who were clearly intent on spreading their negativity far and wide – I guess they wished they had the place to themselves!
The colour at Westonbirt is fantastic right now – I’m guessing it must be near its peak. Hopefully we won’t get any stormy weather to speed the leaf fall. Boy does it get busy! I got there just after opening and left about lunch time, at which point there was a substantial queue slowly snaking its way in, and constantly being added to. I’m hoping for a bright day over the next week so I can make a lengthy visit with my camera.
Loved meeting the red setters and their owners. Not the brightest of dogs but so lovely.
